  • So tell us your name and what do you do in the band?

My name's Jon and I’m the new singer of the complete stone roses

  • What age are you?

I’m 21, the youngest member of the band

  • So have you been in any other bands?

I’ve been in bands since I was in my early teens. Me and a few mates from school used to gig back in Perth, around the small scene that was going around at the time. I moved to Edinburgh a couple of years ago and have gigged with a few bands around there. Done a few tours of England and Scotland and been up to the Shetland, which was brilliant.

  • Are you a big roses fan?

Massive roses fan! Me and my mates back home got into them when we were about 17. We put sally cinnamon on a loop and get proper fucked up, great times.

  • What kind of music are you into?

I listen to everything really. The latest CD I got is by a band called CAN, psychedelic, European sounding stuff. My heart lies in indie guitar pop though…Roses, The Smiths, Oasis, stuff like that. A lot of 60’s stuff as well like The Kinks, The Beatles, Small Faces and bands like that. Love it.

  • So what’s your role in the band? where do you fit in ?

Right in the centre of the stage, between Nelly and Andy haha! Nah, I don’t know really. I act differently on stage to off stage. On stage its centre of attention for me, but off stage I’m a lot more shy.

  • So do you have any musical idols, or people you look up too?

Ehm…I started off as a guitar player, so a lot of guitar players I look up to. My first idol was Chuck Berry. I seen him live when I was 6. I’ve never really got over thinking about playing Rollover Beethoven on a cherry red Gibson, class haha!

  • Who would you love to work with?

I know the boys worked with Peter Hook and Mani before I joined, that would be a dream come true for me to play along side them. Then I’d ask Mani to get Bobby Gillespie round for a gig. That’s unrealistic though isn’t it?

  • Is there anything you’d love to do as a band?

We’re recording an original track pretty soon, which I’m excited about. We’ll see how that goes and hopefully write some more original stuff after that. The boys in the band are great players, so if we put our heads together and get creative, I recon we could come up with something pretty shit hot.

  • What would be the dream gig for you?

My perfect gig would be playing somewhere outdoors in Scotland with The Stones, Oasis and The Beatles. The sun would have to be shining too, free lager and cleans toilets haha!

  • Where do you see yourself in a couple of years time ?

My main commitment right now is The Complete Stone Roses. Until when, I don’t know. I’m really enjoying what I do right now, and it’s a great position to be in and I’m buzzing for what’s to come. I have a few other projects I’m working on as well, which I play guitar in. That’s coming together really well. But I don’t think too far into the future, not a couple of years anyway.

  • What’s been the most memerable thing that’s happened to you in the band?

    Enrollment!
